AADOCR NSRG - President Candidate
Reasons for Running
As the current president of the Memphis NSRG chapter, I have had the opportunity to be mentored by Dr. Mustafa Dabbous. He has strongly encouraged me to run for President of NSRG. I firmly believe that I can be an effective student leader of the NSRG.
I have experience in leading the Memphis chapter: I have had success doubling the participation in our student research fellowship and increasing our participation at annual meetings.
I want you to know that I see and have experienced some of the issues we are facing in dentistry. We are behind compared to to other medical fields. For example in the field of stem cells, there is a fundamental disconnect when it comes to the clinical applicability of these biomolecular concepts. Every lab needs a clinician on board to direct the clinical applicability of their findings or we will stay behind other fields. We need to relay the message to future clinicians that research is not a crippling responsibility, but a freedom to answer your own questions. We need new ideas. We need to think outside the box and say "why not?" "How can we make this better?" instead of accepting the status quo of 50 years ago. It is our duty to our patients as future dentists to answer this call.
