Reasons for Running
As an internationally trained dentist aspiring to build a research career through AADOCR/IADR, I am acutely aware of the unique challenges faced by individuals like myself. Despite observing numerous dental academicians with international backgrounds in the United States, there has been a notable absence of internationally trained students contributing to the NSRG leadership board.
Upon graduating as a dentist in Peru, I envisioned a more expansive role in healthcare, prompting me to pursue a master's in Public Health and an MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University. Now, as a first-year PhD student at Western, my focus lies in establishing a research career in oral health, bridging basic and socio-behavioral sciences.
These academic pursuits have not only deepened my understanding of our student community's potential but also heightened my awareness of the profound impact we can have in inspiring future generations in oral health research and academic excellence.
Leveraging my professional and academic experiences spanning Latin America and North America, I am confident in facilitating improved communication and collaboration among NSRG members. My goal is to guide student members toward success in both academic dentistry and global health. This realization fuels my strong motivation to vie for the Vice-President position at AADOCR/NSRG.
