Alexandria, VA, USA – The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) has announced Megumi Williamson as the 2024 recipient of the William B. Clark Fellowship. Williamson, from East Carolina University (ECU), Greenville, NC, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 53rd Annual Meeting of the AADOCR, which was held in conjunction with the 102nd General Session of the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024 in New Orleans, LA.
Williamson received her DDS and PhD degrees from Niigata University in Japan. In addition, she completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Washington, and a MS degree and certificate in Periodontology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry. She was previously appointed Assistant Professor and Predoctoral Program Director for the Department of Periodontology at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Williamson’s research focuses on the role of interferons in immune regulation and inflammation in periodontitis. Her research is significant with its focus on periodontitis, and innovative with its use of in vitro epithelial wound healing and cigarette smoking models with the intent of identifying novel therapeutic targets for managing periodontitis. AADOCR is inviting applications from investigators for a sponsored award in clinical research in periodontology. The $5,000 fellowship is in memory of William B. Clark, the late Professor of Oral Biology and Director of the Periodontal Research Center at the University of Florida and is supported by P&G Professional Oral Health, Crest + Oral-B.
