AADOCR Announces Winners of the 2025 AADOCR Hatton Competition

Alexandria, VA – The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) has named the winners of the 2025 AADOCR Hatton Competition. The winners were recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 54th Annual Meeting of the AADOCR, which was held in conjunction with the 49th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 12-15, 2025 in New York, NY.

The winners are:

JUNIOR CATEGORY

1stRachel Kulchar, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, Bethesda, MD. Single Cell and Spatial Analyses of ICI-Induced Granulomatous Sialadenitis.
2ndSaba Manafi, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Functional Assessment of an Oculo-auricular-vertebral Spectrum Associated Variant in Zebrafish

SENIOR CATEGORY

1stSamuel Swearson, University of Iowa, Iowa City. New Models and Treatments for Craniosynostosis.
2ndVasileios Theofilou, University of Maryland at Baltimore. Spatial Compartmentalization of Cellular Networks Within the Immune-Active Gingival Barrier.

POST-DOCTORAL CATEGORY

1stPeng Chen, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Suture-Dura Interaction Supports Coronal Suture Regeneration in Craniosynostosis.
2ndMauricio Sousa, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland. High-Fidelity Model Mimicking Osteocyte Differentiation and Osteoclastogenesis on-a-Chip.

The AADOCR Hatton Competition is designed for junior investigators (junior, senior and post-doctoral) who exhibit potential for a productive career in dental research. It was first presented as the "Novice Award" in 1953 and is the oldest IADR/AADOCR Award. The name was changed to the Edward H. Hatton Award in 1957 to honor IADR past president Edward H. Hatton. The competition is designed to provide an opportunity for the best junior investigators from all IADR Divisions and Sections to present their research at the annual IADR General Session. Winners of the AADOCR Hatton Competition will compete in the IADR Hatton Competition with other IADR Division and Section competitors at the 2025 IADR/PER General Session & Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain on June 24, 2025.
