Advocacy Day Recap
On May 6-7, 2026, AADOCR, in partnership with the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the Friends of NIDCR, hosted its annual Advocacy Day. This year’s event attracted about 100 participants from 27 states who traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with their federal policymakers on Capitol Hill. The advocates, which included oral health researchers and scientists, dental school faculty and students, and patient advocates, educated Congress about the value of NIH and NIDCR-funded biomedical research, and federal oral health training and workforce programs. They also requested support for the bipartisan Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act, legislation that ensures coverage of medically necessary services related to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital craniofacial anomalies.
